Taxman issues warning after jeweller banned from running business

Company directors have been warned to keep detailed financial records after Gary Wright director of a watch and jewellery wholesaler AS Diamonds in Stevenage was banned from acting as a director for six years for failing to explain away irregular payments. Wright treated HMRC 'detrimentally', according to the Insolvency Service, by charging VAT on almost £500,000 worth of sales invoices but not filing any VAT returns or paying any VAT to HMRC. British jeweller Alighieri has become the first jeweller to receive NEWGEN support from the British Fashion Council under the restructured sponsorship scheme. Scam Alert: Retail Jewellers Beware

Gordon Marks the retail jeweller, has today revealed that they have been contacted by the police due to a customer falling prey to a vicious scam. A Gordon Marks representative said, "Unfortunately a lady was scammed yesterday by being sent in to our jewellers to purchase a diamond ring by people pretending to be police. New Designers, a platform promoting new creative talent from graduates, has announced the 2020 recipients of the Goldsmiths’ Company awards for jewellery and silversmithing. The winners are jeweller Coco Liang from Birmingham City University and silversmith Yitong Shang from the Glasgow School of Art. This year, the competition was held digitally with students encouraged to submit design ideas online. Kassandra Lauren Gordon Fund awards £21k in grants

The Kassandra Lauren Gordon Fund (KLG Fund) has awarded a total of £21,000 in grants to Black people working in the jewellery industry who need support for their businesses and have faced financial hardship because of the current crisis, following a review by a panel of five independent industry judges, who said they were “overwhelmed by the talent, creativity and enthusiasm of the applicants”. In June, Black jeweller and activist Kassandra Lauren Gordon successfully raised £19,483 on a Go Fund Me page, exceeding the original £14,000 target. 328 people, businesses and trade organisations made donations ranging from £5 to £5,000.

Grants of up to £5,000 are being offered for 'ambitious learning experiences' as part of the Career Catalyst initiative, offered by the Goldsmiths' Centre, with support from the Goldsmiths' Company Charity and the Radcliffe Trust.  The idea was inspired by former Goldsmiths' Company Apprentice, award-winning jeweller and engraver Castro Smith, whose 2018 travels to Japan have informed and enhanced his recent work.
