Gordon Marks the retail jeweller, has today revealed that they have been contacted by the police due to a customer falling prey to a vicious scam.

A Gordon Marks representative said, "Unfortunately a lady was scammed yesterday by being sent in to our jewellers to purchase a diamond ring by people pretending to be police. Its all incredibly sad."

The scam works like this, according to police:

The scammers already have their target’s details, they then call them by phone and pretend to be the police.

The scammers then advise the victim that they are 'a victim of card fraud' and that they need to make a purchase of a certain amount (in this case £7k, as apparently they already have the card details and amount available in the bank). The female was told not to hang up at all, then sent in to make a purchase.

She then left with the £7k ring and apparently the scammers sent a courier to collect the ring, her bank card and her pin number.

The ring that the victim purchased was similar to this and was a finger size M ½.

The Gordon Marks representative said, "We just wanted to make other jewellers aware. We were completely unaware that this is what was happening, and only found out when the police informed us."

The image is a similar ring to the one purchased.

"The police have sais that it would be great to make it impossible for the criminals to sell the ring and make all other jewellers aware that this scam is happening."
