The history of brooches reflects the social and technical evolution of humanity. During Antiquity, some mysterious fibulae made with bronze spirals tell us that this object was perhaps firstly used to secure clothing. Subsequently, this utilitarian and functional aspect will be lost in favor of an ornamental role: decorated with precious stones, brooches will express the wealth and power of their wearers. As a military badge, a sign of love and devotion, an expression of personal opinions or simply worn for Glamor, the brooch is rich in many meanings which we invite you to study in this Talk. With a
The latest documentary by award-winning director Martina Margaux Cozzi is a visually stimulating portrait of Hong Kong-based multidisciplinary artist Wallace Chan. ”Although space is infinite, it is insignificant without material. Both time and space are measured by materials. If there’s no material, there is no time. If there’s no material, there’s no space either. It is only because of material, that time and space matter. It is only through growth, ageing and death that we feel the passage of time. It is only through our existence that we learn about space, the physical and spiritual space that we
A new report, published by ArtsProfessional, illuminates the somewhat taboo subject of pay and earnings within the Arts Sector. Alongside a quantitative analysis of pay, accross many dimensions of earning- in different organisations, by different demographics and in self-employed, part-time and full-time work- is a staggering 80 pages of qualitative data, made up of over 650 individual comments. It may or my not surprise readers to learn that of these, only 10 were vaguely positive about pay levels within the sector. The author, Liz Hill, surmises that the report is a call to action for funder's to take more responsibility

Conscious, adventurous and sculptural, that’s how Bibi describes her jewellery. Expressed by mixing gold, diamonds and semiprecious stones, with ostrich eggs, scarab wings, tahitian pearls and 40,000 year-old mammoth tusk. Based in Amsterdam, Dutch designer Bibi, combines 18ct gold, precious stones, pearls and ‘objects trouvé’ within unique designs. Historical Mughal Jewellery and Objets d’Art from a Private Collection Schmuck Museum, Pforzheim 22 November 2024 through early February 2025 Architecture, literature and painting, as well as jewellery, experienced a heyday during the Indian Mughal Empire. Mughal jewellery from the 16th to 18th centuries in particular stands out for its excellent quality in terms of design and craftsmanship. The collection, which is a brand new commercial line of the high jewellery 'Mirror Mirror' collection, will launch in three parts throughout 2019. Unlike the high-jewellery line which is comprised of only 5 pierces per design, each individually numbered, the commercial line is widely available via the Aisha Baker website.

Bernhard Schobinger: After Nature "So, when the optic nerve tears, in the still of the air all turns as white as the snow of the Alps". - W.G Sebald "After Nature", 1988 In figurative art, to paint after nature is the opposite of “imitating art”, with its idealization of reality.
