SIGA The Goldsmiths’ Company 2017 Studio Internship Graduate Award         About the Award A Goldsmiths’ Company award open to two graduates (within 5 years of graduation) to support the next generation of silversmiths. The award offers the opportunity to train with the country’s leading silversmiths for 16 weeks (which can be undertaken on a part time basis) before creating an exhibition of work at the Goldsmiths’ Centre. On completion, a certificate will be awarded at a special ceremony at Goldsmiths’ Hall. Funding for Each Graduate Includes A maintenance living grant of £210 per week for a total of 16 weeks.

The Goldsmiths’ Company's Studio Internship Graduate Award ( SIGA ), open to recent graduates - within five years of graduation - aims to enhance the skills of the next generation of silversmiths.  Recipients are given the opportunity to train with the country’s leading silversmiths and receive funding to exhibit new work at a Goldsmiths’ Centre group show from 5-12 September 2017. The current SIGA recipients are Patrick Davison, Hamish Dobbie, Errin Quinn and Dominic Simon. There are two parts to SIGA training - eight weeks honing general silversmithing skills with a renowned silversmith, followed by eight weeks learning a particular skill with an industry specialist.

Liddicoat Postdoctoral Research Fellowships at its Carlsbad, California and New York City locations. The one-to-two year fellowships encourage early-career scientists to pursue full-time academic research on fundamental scientific problems in gemstone geology, defect physics and diamond synthesis; and other fields related to gemology – the study of diamonds, coloured gemstones, pearls and their treatments. Hazel Thorn’s mixed-metal work garners “Best New Design” award at Goldsmiths’ Fair

Hazel Thorn's delicate and intricate works bear resemblance to shards of colourful, patterned eggshells. Her work in mixed-metal silversmithing has taken an interesting turn this year, after placements on an internship scheme run by the Goldsmiths’ Centre. During the 16 week placement, interns undergo intensive one-to-one tuition with master silversmiths, in this case Adrian Hope, Rauni Higson and Mary Ann Simmons.
