The Goldsmiths’ Centre Business Catalyst (Small) Grants

The Goldsmiths’ Centre in London has awarded four jewellers and silversmiths a Business Catalyst (Small) Grant of £1,000 to accelerate their businesses to the next phase of growth. The grants, funded by philanthropic giving from The Goldsmiths’ Company members to the Goldsmiths’ Company Charity’s 1327 Fund, will help Rebecca Oldfield, Clio Saskia, Natalia Majewska and Aishleen Lester to access essential specialist knowledge, equipment or marketing tools. The winning proposals, which were judged by Bettina Boerner, Head of Manufacturing at De Beers Jewellers, Darren Sherwood, jeweller and designer, and Chris Oliver, Head of Professional Training at The Goldsmiths’ Centre, demonstrated a strong commitment

Michael studied in the mid seventies at Leicester Polytechnic now De Montford University, and achieved a BA Hons Degree in Fine Art. Pandora has recruited Geena Tok from Nike to head its business in China, where the Danish company has been challenged by a rise in sales on the grey market. The City Fringe Partnership was a ground-breaking public and private sector alliance between the London Development Agency, the London boroughs and private business partners which ran from 1996 - 2009.  Through their European Development-funded project, the Jewellery Sector Investment Plan (JSIP), they created £3 million worth of jewellery support programmes, improving collaborative and training opportunities in the industry. The Trustees of the South House Workshop Trust are delighted to announce ELEVEN fully-funded silversmithing graduate scholarships for 2025. These residential scholarships are being made available to accelerate the professional careers of promising silversmiths. Each scholarship is for a period of one month or two months, learning a variety of silversmithing skills in an intensive residential placement either in Shetland or Sheffield with master silversmiths Rod Kelly, Brett Payne and Chris Perry. QEST have announced the recipients of awarded funding to 22 new Scholars and 3 Apprentices working across the UK in a varied range of crafts.  QEST have announced the recipients of awarded funding to 22 new Scholars and 3 Apprentices working across the UK in a varied range of crafts. The 25 new craftspeople have recently been awarded QEST funding to further their training and education, making the total grants awarded this year £450,000 to 47 makers. 1 June 1949 – 3 April 2019 Scottish jeweller Eric N Smith has passed away at the age of 69. The jeweller was a celebrated designer, master craftsman and jewellery business owner for more that 50 years. Smith was born in Ralston, Paisley, the elder of two children to Margaret and Alexander Smith, a Senior Designer at the Templeton Carpet Factory in Glasgow.
