A professional studio opportunity for emerging jewellery makers at Yen Jewellery.

A new chapter

After nearly 30 years of building an independent jewellery practice, I am opening my expanded studio at Cockpit Bloomsbury, to support the next generation of jewellery makers. The Supported Studio Programme offers two emerging jewellers the opportunity to develop their own practice within an established professional studio. More than simply providing a bench, the programme offers mentorship, shared experience and insight into the creative realities of sustaining an independent jewellery business.

Why this programme?

Over the years, I have seen many talented jewellers with exceptional technical ability face the challenges of moving from education into professional practice. While training provides an essential foundation, there is often a gap between learning how to make and understanding how to build a sustainable independent jewellery business.

This programme has grown from my own experience and a desire to share the knowledge, perspective and practical insight gained throughout my career.

It is not a technical training course, nor can it promise commercial success. It is an opportunity to work within a professional studio environment, gain valuable industry insight and develop the confidence to build an independent practice.

The Opportunity

Two supported studio placements

Duration

12-month placement (with the opportunity to renew following review)

Subsidised studio fee

£350 per month

Dedicated bench within a professional jewellery studio
Four-day weekly studio access
Access to shared workshop facilities
Mentorship and professional guidance
Insight into collection development, production and client relationships
Exposure to the day-to-day running of an established jewellery business
Access to Cockpit’s creative community and business support
Opportunities for professional visibility through Cockpit events

Who Should Apply?

Jewellery makers who:

Have completed jewellery training (or equivalent experience)
Are technically confident and able to work independently
Are beginning to establish their own practice
Want to strengthen the business and strategic side of their work
Value working within a professional shared studio environment
