Olympia Auctions is thrilled with the result achieved this week for a highly unusual private collection of Dutch solid silver miniature household objects. A gang of thieves launched a raid on the award-winning Court Barn Arts and Craft Museum and in what looks to be a premeditated crime, took off with a number of silver pieces dating back to 1900. The Toolbox Initiative is a volunteer effort created by jewelers Matthieu Cheminée and Tim McCreight in 2014. A brand-new collective, ‘FIVE’, will launch this year at the Collect International Art Fair 2022 with ‘Conversations in Silver & Metal’ supported by Goldsmiths’ Fair. In the lead up to Christmas 2023, jewellery making supplier, Cooksongold, has collaborated with students from Argent College, to create three inspiring sterling silver jewellery making kits. As part of their work experience module, students from Argent College designed a sterling silver flower necklace, swirly heart shaped earrings necklace set and feather themed bracelet and earrings, from scratch. The students then packed the boxes with all the components needed for Cooksongold customers to buy and make the pieces at home. Orkney Jewellery Designer Re-Creates Rare Pictish Necklace

A young Orkney jewellery designer has re-created a rare, 1,400-year-old Pictish necklace, the original of which is kept within the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. Zoe Davidson crafted her 1kg solid silver version of the famous Whitecleugh Chain, discovered in Lanarkshire in 1869, after a personal commission from Orkney archaeology tour guide, Caz Mamwell. Joy Bonfield-Colombara awarded QEST Scholarship

QEST has recently awarded a scholarship to jeweller Joy Bonfield-Colombara to further her training. Joy is an artist and goldsmith who creates jewellery and small-scale sculpture in gold, silver and bronze. She has a BA in Jewellery and Silversmithing from the Glasgow School of Art, and an MA in Jewellery and Metal from the Royal College of Art. Birmingham Assay Office launch optional rainbow mark

The Birmingham Assay Office has announced the launch of its special Rainbow Logo mark which has been created to be applied as an optional mark alongside the hallmark and date letter for 2020. Grant Macdonald Silversmiths have recently completed a commission  comprising a silver falcon. Their falcon was meticulously made by hand, every feather chased in by hand  to obtain a realistic  look and feel as possible. At every stage of production the Grant  Macdo nald  master craftsmen used  their skill and knowledge to make sure that each piece of the work was perfect.  Chasing is an ancient technique, from the noun to chase referring to a  fu rrow  or indent, the metal is  moved not removed. Using this technique, every feather is observed and recreated  gi ving  a sense of  depth and movement.

Agustina Ros: A Glass Adventure

Agustina Ros is a young and promising glass jewelry artist who combines the sensitivity of art and the resolution of design. Born in Misiones, Argentina, she currently lives in Barcelona, the city where she has chosen to open her own studio with an international vision. Focused on the use of blown borosilicate glass, some pieces are then finished with metals such as gold and silver, and polished to improve the reflection of light. Her hungry desire to experiment, create and improve has already led her to receive several awards and to affirm the presence of her collections in international and creative contexts.
