Woldstone Collaborates With Zuleika Gallery To Show The Work Of David Williams-Bulkeley

Woldstone, a gallery dedicated to late 20th and 21st century jewellery and silverware is hosting the work of artist David Williams-Bulkeley in collaboration with Oxford’s Zuleika Gallery.

Zuleika Gallery is an Oxfordshire based art consultancy and pop-up art gallery. From February until June 2017, Zuleika is popping up at Woldstone in Woodstock, Oxfordshire with an exhibition of Still Life paintings by David Williams-Bulkeley. British-born, Williams-Bulkeley now resides and paints from his studio in Boston, Massachusetts and this is a rare chance to see his remarkable work in the UK

“ Woldstone showcases the work of skilled craftsmen. We seek out emerging and established goldsmiths and silversmiths that not only have a distinctive design ethos but who also have the technical skills and experience to produce exceptional quality jewellery and silverware. Collaborating with Zuleika and showing art of this quality is a perfect fit,” explains Bronwen Jameson, co-founder of Woldstone.

Lizzie Collins, founder of Zuleika Gallery explains “Woldstone is a gallery which focuses on contemporary jewellery and silverware from the 20th and 21st Centuries; Zuleika offers Art by leading British and Contemporary artists of the same period. Close to the Midlands, M40, and just an hour from London’s Marylebone by train; aesthetes and art lovers will now have two reasons to visit Woodstock’s Woldstone – for Contemporary Art and Contemporary Jewellery"

There is a great synergy between the two galleries, both set up in 2015.  Both share a commitment to excellence and innovation, promoting both established and emerging contemporary artists in their fields. The emphasis is on works of quality and of a bespoke nature.

The exhibition at Woldstone provides the opportunity to view the exquisite paintings of David Williams-Bulkeley in the context of Jewellery by some of the leading artist goldsmiths of today.

David Williams-Bulkeley (b.1973) is British artist who now lives in Boston, New England. Educated at Eton, Williams-Bulkeley turned to painting full time in 2000 exhibiting with the New English Art Club, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, and was nominated for the Threadneedle Prize in 2010.  He has recently been elected to the Guild of Boston Artists and won the bronze medal at the Guild’s centenary year show.

He is a self-taught artist whose work is driven by his observation of nature. He counts John Singer-Sargent and James McNeill Whistler among his strongest influences.  Like them, he has worked in several genres - as a painter of portraits, still life and landscapes.  His paintings exude a sense of luxury and are characterised by their visual harmony. Williams-Bulkeley sees beauty where others might not and transforms even the mundane into highly aestheticized and beautiful objects, as can be seen in works such as Still Life with Plastic.

Woldstone is a source of fine and original jewellery and silverware by studio goldsmiths and silversmiths. ‘Woldstone’ was established in June 2015 by sisters Sian Perry-Smith and Bronwen Jameson. A trained textile designer and artist herself, Sian is passionate about design. Bronwen has worked in the environmental sector and believes strongly in investing in long –lasting, heirloom pieces. Together they believe in seeking out collections by pioneering jewellers whose craftsmanship and designs can be enjoyed now and in the future.  Based in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, the gallery shows the work of emerging and leading 21st-century goldsmiths and silversmiths including Daphne Krinos, Catherine Mannheim, Jean Scott-Moncrieff, Nicholas Yiannarakis, Louise O’Neill, Vicki Ambery-Smith, Rauni Higson, Paul Preston (from Feb 2017) and Diana Porter…to name a few.
