The Contemporary Craft Festival came about when three Bovey Tracey craft businesses joined forces and formed a non-profit making company with the aim to bring a large craft Fair to Bovey Tracey. The Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council (GC&DC) has appointed John Ball, managing director at British fine jewellery manufacturer Brown & Newirth, as its new Chair for the next two years. John takes over the role of Chair from Anne-Marie Reeves, who has come to the end of her two-year term, but will remain on Council. Gemfields is pleased to announce that Kagem Mining Limited (“Kagem”), the emerald mine in Zambia which is 75% owned by Gemfields and 25% owned by the Government of the Republic of Zambia through the Industrial Development Corporation of Zambia (“IDC”), will shortly recommence a programme of focused open-pit mining to recover more premium emeralds. Funding of up to £18,000 available for craftspeople QEST offers three grants to support makers and conservators at various career stages, strengthening the pipeline of talented craft professionals in the UK. Celebrating 35 years of impact in 2025, QEST has awarded £7.2 million to almost 900 craftspeople working across the UK in 130 different craft disciplines. QEST supports contemporary and traditional craft, as well as the exploration of innovative techniques.
