Celebrating Sarah Letts

Sarah Letts: 1936 – 2017

A unique opportunity to view the drawings, paintings and jewellery created by Sarah Letts in her lifetime. Curated with her family, Studio Fusion is proud to present this work in the gallery where Sarah was co-founder and co-director for over 20 years.

Sarah Letts originally trained as a fine artist before she started to focus on making one-off pieces of jewellery. All her metalwork had its own distinct identity, with her signature striated engraving bringing depth and luminosity to the enamel. Inspired by her garden, the land and seascapes of north Scotland, her colours and forms embodied memories -  'a moment of light suspended in time' . Although jewellery was her main focus she continued to draw and paint throughout her life.

As a one of the founders of Studio Fusion Gallery, Sarah was a co-director for over 20 years where she brought her elegance, humour and a beautiful aesthetic. As a fitting tribute to our dear friend and colleague who died last August we would like to invite you to a celebration of her creative life and work, exhibiting a collection of jewellery, drawing and paintings in collaboration with her family.

Sarah’s jewellery focused on making one off pieces, each with its own distinct identity and signature. Striated engraving enhances the colour and transparency of the enamels, bringing a unique depth and luminosity to the work.

Gold and silver polished to a satin finish create exciting tactile contrasts between metal and glass. Each work embodies memories – ‘a moment of light suspended in time’.

Sarah trained at Chelsea School of Art and Sir John Cass School of Art and was a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths and of the City of London. She exhibited widely in the UK and abroad: Crafts Council Gallery, Electrum Galley and Lesley Craze Gallery in London, 11th and 12th Bienale Internationale d’Email, France, Kunstverein Coburg, Germany, Works Gallery, New York and American, Canadian & European Enamelists, USA and Galeria Fusion, Madrid.
