K2 Academy of Contemporary Jewellery Summer School

K2 Academy are offering an exciting range of 1-day jewellery short courses during the first two weeks of August. Each class focuses on a different technique.

3 - 7 August 2020 & 10 - 14 August 2020

 

Intro into jewellery making / surface textures (beginners, intermediate)

This course offers you an insight into jewellery making with a focus on surface texture. You will be making a simple pendant and learn different surface texture techniques like roll-printing, hammering and reticulation as well as piercing and soldering.

Monday 3 August 2020 10am - 4pm 
£90 (silver not included but can be bought at the college)

 

Sand casting (beginners, intermediate, advanced)

During this class you will learn the different steps of how to make a mould with delft clay and cast a piece or two in pewter. This will give you an insight into mould making, 3D thinking and casting liquid metal. There is also the possibility of casting in silver.

Tuesday 4 August 2020 10am - 4pm 

£110 (silver not included but can be bought at the college)

 

Silicone mould making for jewellery (beginners, intermediate, advanced)

During this course you will learn how to make an open and/or two-part mould in silicone rubber. We will cover techniques such as 3D mould making, how to design a mould, suitability of masters e.g. undercuts and how to cast wax and polyurethane resin, which can then be used as jewellery elements.

Wax carving and modelling (beginners, intermediate, advanced)

In this class you will get an introduction into working with different waxes such as modelling and carving waxes for jewellery making and casting.

You will learn carving and modelling techniques, finishing waxes and how to create different surface textures on wax.

Thursday 6 Aug 2020 10am - 4pm

Earring backs and findings (beginners, intermediate, advanced)

During this class you will learn how to make earring findings ranging from simple earring posts and hooks to more complex attachments.

The session covers bending and shaping, riveting and problem solving,

Friday 7 Aug 2020 10am - 4 pm 

£90 (silver not included but can be bought at the college)

 

Intro into claw setting (intermediate and advanced)

This session will cover the different stages of claw setting for a variety of stones such as facetted, irregular and regular shaped stones as well as raw crystals.

Some of the techniques covered are advanced soldering, precise measuring and precise marking.

Monday 10 August 2020 10am - 4pm

Bezel setting (beginners, intermediate, advanced)

This session will cover how to make a setting for a cabochon cut and / or facetted stone in a bezel. You will learn how to measure, cut, bend, solder, precise working, prepare and setting of a stone.

Please bring your own stones.

Tuesday 11 August 2020 10am - 4pm 

£90 (silver not included but can be bought at the college)

 

Intro into jewellery making / make a ring in a day (beginners, intermediate)

This class will give you an insight into jewellery making with a focus on creating a ring. You will learn how to measure, mark-out, pierce, how to bend and basic soldering.

Wednesday 12 August 10am - 4pm 

£90 (silver not included but can be bought at the college)

 

Forging and spoon making (beginners, intermediate, advanced)

In this class you will learn basic forging techniques and how to forge a small spoon. The techniques taught are: metal deformation and shaping, annealing, use of different hammers and finishing techniques.

Thursday 13 August 10am - 4pm 

£90 (silver not included but can be bought at the college)

 

Clasps, findings and alteration of ready-mades (beginners, intermediate, advanced)

In this class you will create simple to more complex findings (depending on your skill level) for a chain or necklace.

We will also look at ready-made findings to adapt them to individual designed jewellery pieces.

Techniques covered are: bending and shaping, surface texture, soldering, design and problem solving.

Friday 14 August 10am - 4pm

Materials need

Most materials will be supplied. The students need to bring their own precious metals and gemstones. The college has some silver in stock and it can be purchased on the day. Please contact us for more information about which exact materials you would need to supply by yourself.
