A stark warning has been issued for the future of traditional craft skills in the UK, as new research by Heritage Crafts has identified 20 more crafts at risk of vanishing from the UK, in the latest major update of its pioneering project – the Red List of Endangered Crafts – published today. The Trustees of the South House Workshop Trust are delighted to announce ELEVEN fully-funded silversmithing graduate scholarships for 2025. These residential scholarships are being made available to accelerate the professional careers of promising silversmiths. Each scholarship is for a period of one month or two months, learning a variety of silversmithing skills in an intensive residential placement either in Shetland or Sheffield with master silversmiths Rod Kelly, Brett Payne and Chris Perry. Alexander Sidorov’s Advanced Micro-Setting Masterclass In 2015 the Goldsmiths’ Centre launched London’s first dedicated training workshop for micro-setting and engraving having entered into partnership with Optical Diamond Setter and SEO of the world-renowned Antwerp based Alexandre School, Alexander Sidorov. Alexander Sidorov will be offering a five day intensive practical course at the Goldsmiths’ Centre for experienced jewellers or stone setters from 13 to 17 February 2017. Micro-setting enables practitioners, with the aid of powerful microscopes, to arrange diamonds and precious stones cleanly and seamlessly across a surface. The City Fringe Partnership was a ground-breaking public and private sector alliance between the London Development Agency, the London boroughs and private business partners which ran from 1996 - 2009.
