Highlights of the RCA2023 Show

Last week we ventured into the wilds of Battersea, London specifically to the (new to us) campus for Jewellery, Goldsmithing, Metalwork and Jewellery at the Royal College of Art for the 2023 Show. The Royal College of Art’s Emerging Fashion Designer Show ‘All at Once’

The Royal College of Art (RCA) will this year present its annual MA Fashion show – All At Once – an immersive event, followed the next day by a showroom made up of talks, walks and performances that investigate fashion as designed identities. Harriet Laurence, a recent graduate of the MA Craft degree at the University of Brighton will present her range of recycled polymer jewellery in a first-time partnership exhibition with Hove Museum and Art gallery, which will run from the 15th September - 6th November 2018.  Created in collaboration with Weez & Merl Ltd, a local polymer recycling studio, Harriet’s three statement necklaces are handcrafted from 3.9kgs of waste plastic diverted from landfill. MASieraad Graduation Show 🎓

MASieraad Hasselt-Amsterdam is a private initiative by Gijs Bakker, Ruudt Peters, Ted Noten and Liesbeth den Besten. Inhorgenta Munich Reports 4% Growth for 2018 Show

Inhorgenta Munich has reported strong growth figures for its 2018 show, which took place between 16 to 19 February. The event organiser reported that some 27,000 trade visitors from over 70 countries visited the German based trade show. Scott Armstrong wins CSM Chaumet Design Competition

Joy Bonfield-Colombara awarded QEST Scholarship

QEST has recently awarded a scholarship to jeweller Joy Bonfield-Colombara to further her training. Joy is an artist and goldsmith who creates jewellery and small-scale sculpture in gold, silver and bronze. She has a BA in Jewellery and Silversmithing from the Glasgow School of Art, and an MA in Jewellery and Metal from the Royal College of Art. British Fashion Council Announce Scholarship Recipients

The British Fashion Council (BFC) Education Foundation is a registered charity that offers scholarships to talented young people to study BAs and MAs. The BFC has been supporting MA Scholarships since 1998 and the recipients are now seen as the next generation of talented designers. The Fashion Awards 2016 will have a core aim - to raise significant funds over the next ten years to continue this work and help the best talent attend leading fashion colleges. In this ninth year, the competition has been extended to include an exciting new format, together with new categories, to reflect the breadth of innovative and commercial talent across all sectors of the show. Award winning ethical jeweller, Lebrusan Studio, has today released figures that show an increase in searches of over 1,200% for shoppers visiting the site looking for commitment rings. The stats, gleaned from a comparison between January to March versus June to August, show that during the three months coming out of lockdown, more lovers were searching for the term ‘commitment ring’ than ever before. Supporting craft skills and talent with the Bishopsland Educational Trust, the Goldsmiths’ Centre and HS Walsh Blake Roberts In this year’s 75 th  anniversary year, award winning Jacobs the Jewellers, Reading’s oldest independent jewellery retailer, today revealed the return of its annual Emerging Designer competition featuring nine emerging designers from Bishopsland Educational Trust.   Helping boost fledgling careers, the event combines a virtual show with instore experience reflecting the local and national audience for amazing craft skills and design. Weston Beamor Announce Winner of BCU Live Project 2018

Birmingham City University's School of Jewellery student Kai-Blu Triassi has won the annual Weston Beamor  Live Project  with his contemporary geometric ‘Dyad’ engagement and wedding ring set design. Kai-Blu’s award was announced on the WB stand at this year’s Jewellery & Watch show. Kai-Blu impressed judges with his striking and bold ring set, commercial-focus, unique design and understanding of thickness and tolerances, demonstrated through his strong CAD modelling skills.
