The King hand struck the King’s Mark onto a Processional Cross for the Church in Wales made by silversmith and master craftsman Michael Lloyd during a visit to the Goldsmiths' Centre. The Cross was commissioned by The Goldsmiths’ Company on behalf of The former Prince of Wales (now The King,) as a gift for the Church in Wales. On Thursday the 8th February Benchpeg was privileged and honoured to attend, with 23 other senior leaders representing the UK Jewellery, Silverware and Allied Crafts sector, a roundtable discussion with meeting Sir Chris Bryant MP, Shadow Minister for the DCMS (Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport) who was on a fact finding mission to learn more about our sector. Facilitated by The National Association of Jewellers, and ably Chaired by CEO Ben Massey, the 24 seats around the table demonstrated the myriad of specialisms which the sector is made up of. Robert began his career at the Goldsmiths’ Company in 2000 as Superintendent Assayer of the London Assay Office, before taking over as Deputy Warden (Managing Director-equivalent) in 2006. The exhibition comprises work made from different photographic techniques, including photo-etchings on zinc, Tintypes and Alutypes. The photo-etching on zinc plates technique comes from an old printing process, the Heliogravure. British jewellery designer Phoebe Walsh has created a series of 5 miniature flower pressing books in recycled Sterling Silver, each containing a single war flower from the new frontlines in Kyiv.
