With Article 50 now officially triggered, Ross Strachan, from the GFMS Team at Thomson Reuters, provides his thoughts on the impacts seen in the precious metals market since the Brexit vote in June 2016. “In the precious metals market, the most substantial impact of the Brexit vote has been in the UK. Naturally part of this is due to the impact of political and economic uncertainty leading to purchases of precious metals and especially gold, but also important is the impact through the exchange rate. When Gold Goes Green - Ethical Gold and Sustainable Metals in Jewellery
Jeweller Saskia Shutt believes that it is important that jewellers are aware of the origins of the materials used to create Jewellery. The planet is under threat from man-made activities and over-exploitation of natural resources which will take generations to resolve. She has found that currently, there is an increasingly vocal demand for ‘green gold’ that comes from traceable, recycled precious metals, as well as a demand for ethical gold. There are only two non-profit organisations working to help produce ethical gold; Fairmined, and Fairtrade Gold. Precious metals can be recycled, and this is something Saskia Shutt has done since

Kelvin J Birk: From the hegemony of value to the freedom of form
Kelvin J Birk loves to explore the concept of value in jewellery, and he does so through the provocation that characterizes his creative process writes Ilaria Ruggiero. His creations are in fact the result of a series of actions to break and pulverise precious stones, which are thus deprived of their first and original form and structure in order to create something new; in some ways the same, but also different. The stones are then mixed together, in some cases with non-precious materials, thus playing with the altered perceptions that such a mixture can create. In this way Kelvin questions what

Whilst traditionally there are two precious birthstones associated with the blooming spring month of March it is Aquamarine that is more closely considered the stone of seasonal tranquility. Amethyst Crush for February Birth Babies
One of the most revered stones for centuries, amethyst crystal is one of the most treasured variety of quartz. With its stunning tones of violet-purple and its rich history saturated with medieval lore and legendary powers, few crystals are as distinctive as arresting amethyst. Today, amethyst is classified as a semi-precious stone but throughout history, many ancients regarded it as a "Gem of Fire", worth as much in value and beauty as a diamond. Believed to carry energies of passion and fire, creativity and spirituality, amethyst has always been associated with the month of February and the Roman water-god, Neptune.
