Gemfields is pleased to announce that Kagem Mining Limited (“Kagem”), the emerald mine in Zambia which is 75% owned by Gemfields and 25% owned by the Government of the Republic of Zambia through the Industrial Development Corporation of Zambia (“IDC”), will shortly recommence a programme of focused open-pit mining to recover more premium emeralds. The Incorporation of Goldsmiths of the City of Edinburgh has named a former jeweller Ebba Goring as its new Director,to continue its work to promote ethical gold and silversmithing. Goring was previously the Incorporation’s Programmes Manager and delivered November 2019’s fifth annual Elements festival and also led on the organisation’s Ethical Making Programme and educational projects. Collective a Maker’s Exhibition - Craft Central, London

Thirteen of Britain’s most exciting new designer-makers are staging an exhibition.  Collective: a Maker’s Exhibition  runs from 15-20 November 2016, and will showcase a unique blend of styles and media, including jewellery and textile designs, stylish, modern furnishings, laser-cut marquetry and breath taking ceramics. All thirteen are members of the Craft Council’s prestigious Hothouse scheme, an intensive yearly development programme that gives selected emerging makers the tools and skills to create a sustainable and successful business. London has long had a Fashion Week and a Design Festival. Since 2015, it has had the equivalent for craft: London Craft Week.
