The Association for the Study of Jewelry & Related Arts Virtual Lecture: The Art of Gaman

The Association for the Study of Jewelry & Related Arts (ASJRA) has announced it will offer a virtual lecture on Thursday, March 2 at 7 p.m. ET (12am UK time) on The Art of Gaman. The lecture will be given by Delphine Hirasuna, the curator of the exhibition The Art of Gaman: Arts and Crafts from the Japanese American Internment Camps, 1942-1946 which was mounted at ten venues in the USA and five venues in Japan. Veteran jewellery industry stalwart Michael Hoare has passed after a long battle with cancer. Michael studied in the mid seventies at Leicester Polytechnic now De Montford University, and achieved a BA Hons Degree in Fine Art. Edinburgh Assay Office’s CEO and Assay Master assumes international Chairman role

Scott Walter, who is the chief executive and master of the Edinburgh Assay Office will take up the role of chairman of the Convention on the Control & Marking of Articles of Precious Metals (CCMAPM) at the end of November. Mr Walter held previous roles within the Convention sitting on the Standing Technical committee and the Vision and Strategy Working group. Mr Walter has recently completed a five-year term as chairman of the International Association of Assay Offices, which culminated in its merger with the CCMAPM. Craft Central, formerly known as the Clerkenwell Green Association announced this week that very sadly it has no choice but to wind up its operations and close the 54 year old charity. With its origins and former home at Pennybank Chambers, Clerkenwell, the organisation was spread across two buildings close to Farringdon and home to an array of designer makers, crafts people and allied trades. Muriel was a Founding Member of ACJ, and was for seven years our Honorary Secretary. She initiated our print magazine Findings and served as its Editor for 15 years, from 1998 to 2013. She was a keystone member of ACJ and keeper of its history. Appointment: London Diamond Bourse Appoint New Board Members

London Diamond Bourse, the only diamond specific trade association and physical diamond trading floor in the UK, has today announced changes to the composition of its Council of Management. “These are the most fundamental changes to LDB’s governance in my six years at LDB,” said COO, Victoria McKay. She continued, “The following changes are notable; Kathy Chappell, our Special Advisor for Ethical Issues has been welcomed to a full board position and our youngest board member is a millennial. Overall the average age of our board has lowered dramatically and representation around the boardroom table is proportionate to membership statistics."
