Taxman issues warning after jeweller banned from running business

Company directors have been warned to keep detailed financial records after Gary Wright director of a watch and jewellery wholesaler AS Diamonds in Stevenage was banned from acting as a director for six years for failing to explain away irregular payments. Wright treated HMRC 'detrimentally', according to the Insolvency Service, by charging VAT on almost £500,000 worth of sales invoices but not filing any VAT returns or paying any VAT to HMRC. Although Wright did submit accounting records, they were considered 'inadequate' by the Insolvency Service who claimed they were unable to verify the purpose of payments made to himself

Gordon Marks the retail jeweller, has today revealed that they have been contacted by the police due to a customer falling prey to a vicious scam. A Gordon Marks representative said, "Unfortunately a lady was scammed yesterday by being sent in to our jewellers to purchase a diamond ring by people pretending to be police. A desire for flexible working arrangements and a reluctance to relocate for more senior roles were the reasons behind a gender pay gap in the jewellery retail industry that was higher than the national average, research has shown. The recent spate of violent 'smash and grab' moped robberies on leading British jewellers will increase in the run up to Christmas, a leading security expert has warned and retailers are urged to contact police with reports of any suspicious activity. The V&A Trustees have today (13 January) appointed Dr Tristram Hunt as the new Director of the V&A.  Tristram has served as Labour MP for Stoke-on-Trent Central since 2010, and was previously the Shadow Secretary of State and Shadow Minister for Education.  A historian, politician, writer and broadcaster, Tristram is an expert on the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, with a particular focus on Victorian urban history. Futuristic Utopia: Charlotte Anderson Sculpts her '2300' Final Collection

Charlotte Asherson, a jewellery student from Central Saint Martins, came to see D2W’s jewellery expert Dovydas Pocius with some sketches and draft CAD files that described an extensive collection of jewellery designs. During the initial consultation, Charlotte explained that she had started to produce some of the collection using traditional jewellery and silversmithing techniques but the process had proven to be too expensive and she wasn’t satisfied with the final result.
