The Birmingham Assay Office has announced the launch of its special Rainbow Logo mark which has been created to be applied as an optional mark alongside the hallmark and date letter for 2020. Three second year students studying for a Higher National Diploma in Jewellery and Silversmithing at the Birmingham City University's School of Jewellery have been shortlisted as finalists in an annual design competition run by Birmingham-based casting house, 3D printing and bespoke manufacturing company Weston Beamor. The brief for this year’s Live Project was to design a halo engagement ring and a fitted wedding band to sit alongside it. A university student from the University of Dundee has won the Ingle & Rhode 2017 Fairtrade Gold Design Awards. Aspiring jewellery design undergraduate, Angela Gillies, is the over all winner of the awards, after competing against more than 100 budding designers and impressing the panel of judges. This Autumn Benchpeg launched a competition open to Birmingham School of Jewellery students and alumni to design our annual Christmas Tree Decoration. We had some innovative, thoughtful and creative designs submitted in response to the quite constrained brief, but the winner selected by the Benchpeg team, was designed by Kate Dugmore. The design entitled ‘GeoGems’ has the illusion of shattered facets within a diamond form, which is both contemporary and challenging. Birmingham based fine jewellery manufacturer Hockley Mint has partnered with industry specialist insurance broker TH March to offer exclusive benefits to all designers who enter Hockley Mint’s 25 th anniversary design competition. This collaboration between TH March and Hockley Mint aims to educate and raise awareness among jewellery designers about the need for insurance cover to protect them against risks such as theft or loss of stock and goods, business interruption and public and products liability. As a result of this new partnership, the winner of Hockley Mint’s competition will receive one year’s worth of free insurance cover .
