QEST have announced the recipients of awarded funding to 22 new Scholars and 3 Apprentices working across the UK in a varied range of crafts.  QEST have announced the recipients of awarded funding to 22 new Scholars and 3 Apprentices working across the UK in a varied range of crafts. The 25 new craftspeople have recently been awarded QEST funding to further their training and education, making the total grants awarded this year £450,000 to 47 makers. The new Scholars and Apprentices include makers working in architectural origami, thatching, knifemaking, woodturning, the endangered craft of sporran making and much more.

Edinburgh Assay Office’s CEO and Assay Master assumes international Chairman role

Scott Walter, who is the chief executive and master of the Edinburgh Assay Office will take up the role of chairman of the Convention on the Control & Marking of Articles of Precious Metals (CCMAPM) at the end of November. Mr Walter held previous roles within the Convention sitting on the Standing Technical committee and the Vision and Strategy Working group. Mr Walter has recently completed a five-year term as chairman of the International Association of Assay Offices, which culminated in its merger with the CCMAPM. Jewellery Quarter-based designer Fei Liu has sold his bespoke ‘Poppies in Love’ at auction. In 2021, Fei Liu Fine Jewellery revitalised its fine jewellery line with one-of-a-kind pieces in gold and platinum; selling across the UK, US and Asian markets. Since its rejuvenation, the designer brand has seen sales double from the prior year and a higher intake of bespoke commissions from private collectors.
