He began his career in precious metals at the age of 14, he attended a pre apprentice course at the Central School of Arts and Crafts finally graduating from Sir John Cass School of Art. Grant Macdonald Silversmiths have recently completed a commission comprising a silver falcon. Their falcon was meticulously made by hand, every feather chased in by hand to obtain a realistic look and feel as possible. At every stage of production the Grant Macdo nald master craftsmen used their skill and knowledge to make sure that each piece of the work was perfect. Chasing is an ancient technique, from the noun to chase referring to a fu rrow or indent, the metal is moved not removed. Using this technique, every feather is observed and recreated gi ving a sense of depth and movement.

Th e British Fashion Council has announced that its charitable initiative BFC Fashion Trust has awarded grants totalling £450,000 between eleven designers; the largest donation by the trust to date. New recipients for 2017 are Edeline Lee, Georgia Hardinge, Isa Arfen, Sharon Wauchob and Teatum Jones. Goldsmiths’ Fair have announced this year’s graduate exhibitors. The Fair is the foremost platform to launch the careers of emerging precious metal designer-makers and the event will welcome 10 new graduate exhibitors. Graduates receive a free stand at the Fair, a £1,500 grant to help prepare for the Fair, and an optional interest free silver bullion loan of up to £3,000. IKEA Bootcamp Accelerator for Start Ups Organised by IKEA A three-month Sweden-based accelerator programme for start-ups from anywhere in the world that are creating solutions to everyday problems. Based in Älmhult, Sweden, the programme will offer participating start-ups co-working space in the IKEA Range & Supply Democratic Design centre, including access to the prototype shop, test labs and in-house expertise on topics such as business development, UX, design, growth hacking and fundraising. SIGA The Goldsmiths’ Company 2017 Studio Internship Graduate Award About the Award A Goldsmiths’ Company award open to two graduates (within 5 years of graduation) to support the next generation of silversmiths. The award offers the opportunity to train with the country’s leading silversmiths for 16 weeks (which can be undertaken on a part time basis) before creating an exhibition of work at the Goldsmiths’ Centre. Grants of £2,000-£7,000 are available to individuals, societies, associations or other bodies in the UK or Japan to promote and support interaction between the two countries. In order to fund as many applications as we possibly can, given our limited budget, we typically award £3,000 to successful Small Grant applications.
