Currently  studying Jewellery and Metal Design at the University of Dundee  Angela Gillies, winner of  the 2017 Ingle & Rhode Fairtrade Gold Design Award has had her winning piece hallmarked by the London Assay Office. Angela’s winning piece entitled ‘Nestled’ has been cast and was taken to the London Assay Office to be hallmarked and stamped with the Fairtrade mark last week. Bishopsland Educational Trust announces Angela Cork’s appointment as Principal

The Trustees of Bishopsland Educational Trust are pleased to announce that, after a rigorous and competitive recruitment process, Angela Cork has been appointed as Principal, commencing September 2023. Pope Makower, Founder of the Trust, is stepping down thirty years after creating, with her husband Oliver, the Bishopsland programme.  The Trustees are delighted that she has accepted the role of Principal Emeritus.  At a special reception at Goldsmiths’ Hall in June 2023 to celebrate Pope and Oliver’s lifetime achievement, and to look forward to the future of Bishopsland, she will formally hand over the baton to Angela. Dundee Student Wins Ingle & Rhode Fairtrade Gold Award

A university student from the University of Dundee has won the Ingle & Rhode 2017 Fairtrade Gold Design Awards. Aspiring jewellery design undergraduate, Angela Gillies,  is the over all winner of the awards, after competing against more than 100 budding designers and impressing the panel of judges.  Highly commended designs, category winners, and the overall winners were announced at the Fair Luxury (FLUX) 2017 conference in Birmingham on 25th April.  This is the first year the awards have run, recognising up and coming talent within the jewellery design industry.  Angela Gillies said of the win,  “Winning the Fairtrade Gold Design

Five Launches At Collect International Art Fair 2022

A brand-new collective, ‘FIVE’, will launch this year at the Collect International Art Fair 2022 with ‘Conversations in Silver & Metal’ supported by Goldsmiths’ Fair. FIVE comprises UK based silversmiths Angela Cork, Jessica Jue, Ane Christensen, Patrick Davison and Sheng Zhang. The group is a diverse mix of exciting emerging and mid-career makers that represent a cross-section of generations and backgrounds with a shared ethos of creativity evolving around precision and fine craftsmanship. Each maker applies contemporary ideas to traditional materials and techniques to challenge the preconceptions and expectations of tradition, value, and the use of silver and fine metalwork.

Dining out on design at new Made for the Table exhibition

Made for the Table offers visitors to the Goldsmiths Centre this summer an extravagant feast in more ways than one. At the centre of this new silverware exhibition, which opens on July 13th and runs until August 31st is a modern day table dressed for dinner featuring newly comissioned silverware, by leading makers such as Michael Lloyd, Malcolm Appleby, Jane Short, Angela Cork and Miriam Hanid showcasing contemporary cultures and new silversmithing technogies. Hockley Mint reveals finalists of anniversary design competition

Birmingham based jewellery manufacturer Hockley Mint has revealed the finalists in its 25th anniversary design competition, with six designers making the shortlist.  The finalists are Anna Carter, Yasmin Everley, Roxanne Gilbert, Angela Gillies, Yvonne Knights and Jessica Mead, who were all applauded by the judges for their creativity and vision. 9th edition of Jacobs the Jewellers’ Emerging Designer Competition launches this Summer

Supporting craft skills and talent with the Bishopsland Educational Trust, the Goldsmiths’ Centre and HS Walsh Blake Roberts In this year’s 75 th  anniversary year, award winning Jacobs the Jewellers, Reading’s oldest independent jewellery retailer, today revealed the return of its annual Emerging Designer competition featuring nine emerging designers from Bishopsland Educational Trust.   Helping boost fledgling careers, the event combines a virtual show with instore experience reflecting the local and national audience for amazing craft skills and design.
