Whilst it came with some controversial murmurs, it's without question that this year's Met Gala theme of 'Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination' provided a night of jaw-dropping celestial charm.

Celebrating an ornate sector of religious art, guests of the Gala pulled out all the stops with big-time ornamentation which left a sea of dramatic and decadent jewellery to admire.

From oversized rings to ornate drop earrings, guests upped their ante with subtle and chic references to depictions of renaissance saints and deities.

Wrapped strands of oversized jewels, bejewelled headpieces, tiaras and crystal-crystal-encrusted religious crosses and rosaries adorned the exuberant gowns of red-carpet guests.

The stakes for best dressed were high but those that stood out in pure magnificence included Lena Waithe wearing a cape adorned with oversized Verdura brooches, Gigi Hadid dripping in Lorraine jewels, Madonna's towering crucifix-covered Narcisa Pheres jewels; not to mention Queen Rhianna wowing in Cartier and Mariah Tash beauty! Who do you think owned the 2018 Met Gala theme the best?

The display of such head-turning variety meant that the beautifully ornate jewellery on display didn't just sparkle and shine, it stood out and dazzled in sensational splendour.
