The anthological exhibition ‘Annamaria Zanella. Between Matter and Color’ has been extended until 14 July at the San Rocco Oratory in Padua writes Ilaria Ruggiero.
Promoted by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Padua and realized with the contribution of the Cassa di Risparmio di Padova and Rovigo Foundation, the exhibition, curated by Mirella Cisotto Nalon, pays tribute to one of the most complete artists of the contemporary jewellery scene, retracing the milestones of her work through a hundred jewels on display.
Born within the Paduan goldsmith's school, Zanella quickly moved towards structurally complex forms extensively experimenting with the most varied materials, without refusing the precious and those characteristic of goldsmith.
In the panorama of international contemporary jewellery, Annamaria shines with a unique light, given not only by the individual inspirations she seeks, such as the use of pigments, the blue colour and the connection with poor art – just to name a few - but the more from the uniqueness of her poetry and narrative.
It is the peculiar way of combining, assembling, forming and mixing the different elements that make the pieces unique.
The alternation of bright and rough surfaces, the combination of complementary and non-complementary colours, the creation of unusual, abstract and geometric shapes, the unpredictable and decomposed volumes, the reasoned use of precious and non-precious materials: all governed and orchestrated by a delicate and refined aesthetic sensibility.
Each of her creation, for completeness and intensity, seems to encompass all the others, referring to her entire production, as if it were connected by a metaphorical common thread – perhaps a blue one. At the same time, however, at every glance, wonder is renewed with the same enthusiasm and emotion.
The volume ‘Annamaria Zanella. The poetry of Material’ was also presented for the exhibition. Published by Arnoldsche, It is enriched with the texts by Karl Bollmann, Roberta Bernabei, Mirella Cisotto Nalon, Andrea Colasio, Matthew Drutt, Nancy Olnick, Renzo Pasquale, Jarunn Velteberg, Christianne Webber-Stober, Annamaria Zanella, Olga Zobel Birò.
