The SIJW project is primarily intended to present contemporary jewelry design to the public. They will be able to learn more about the products and designers who create contemporary jewelry throughout Slovenia. Guests from abroad will also join them. This is currently the only event in our country that is specifically aimed at promoting contemporary jewelry design and its creators.

Contemporary jewelry is a self-reflexive practice, which means that we creators are engaged in thinking about ourselves and the conditions in which we carry out this practice. Contemporary jewelry designers generally operate in a critical or conscious attitude to history and practice and to the broader field of sustainable jewelry design and production.

We have already started collecting applications for the presentation of jewelry, as well as organizing the exhibitions and satellite projects that will take place during the event.

We invite all galleries, museums, schools and independent creators who would like to collaborate with their own program to send us a description of their programs and ideas.

The creative theme for 2023 is The Contemporary Alchemy (the art of transformation).

For individuals who would like to present their jewelry at a group exhibition in Ljubljana, three topics are announced:

1. the past – TRADITION IN JEWELRY: cultural heritage and craftsmanship;

2. present – SUSTAINABILITY IN JEWELRY: sustainable materials, recycling;

3. the future – SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY IN JEWELRY: jewelry and robotics, artificial intelligence, digitization.

All selected pieces of jewelry will be presented at the central event, at a specially curated and themed exhibition in Ljubljana.

All selected designers who will participate in the exhibition, satellite projects and workshops will be presented and linked on the website of SLOVENIAN JEWELRY WEEK – SIJW. The website will contain an active map of Slovenia, where users will be able to locate the project of each registered and selected designer, gallery, school or museum. Other online platforms will also be active, through which SIJW and designers will present themselves. Guided tours will also be organized at various locations in Slovenia.

Participation and registration are free for everyone, there is no registration fee. The idea and presentation are the only input.

The application deadline is 23 January 2023.

The selection of the applied designers will be decided by an expert committee, and applicants will receive notification of the committee’s decision no later than January 30, 2023.

The expert committee will consider only correctly completed and complete applications.
