Are you a student engraver or know one?

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to apply to this year’s Student Prize competition ! 

Aims:

To foster students who show a keen interest in hand engraving in order to develop their skills.

To build lasting structures in place to allow HEA to support talented individuals and promote hand engraving to a wider audience.

Requirements:

The prize is open to all current students and apprentices, particularly relevant to those wishing to pursue engraving.

Applicants are required to submit up to 6 images of their engraved work and up to 3 drawing/design samples. Images must be of good quality and resolution.

Image spec requirements: Jpeg at 300 dpi with the shortest side no less than 15cm. Files should be less than 5MB each. Please include at least one close-up/detailed image.

Applicants must also submit a CV, or description of their studies up to this point, and a short statement addressing their interest and experience in engraving and their expected course end date (no more than 250 words).

You don’t need to be a member of the Hand Engravers Association to enter the competition.

Judging:

The submissions will be judged one week after the Deadline by one Trustee and two professional engraver members of the Association.

The Award:

  • There will be two prizes, one for the winner and one for the runner up.
  • The First Place Winner will receive:
  • One year's free membership of the Hand Engravers Association
  • Help with travel costs (or similar) for at least one member event (up to a maximum of £100)
  • A free place on a relevant course offered by the Hand Engravers Association.  This could be online or in person and is offered subject to availability.  The course must be taken before 31st December 2027.
  • A feature in the Association's newsletter and on social media

The Runner Up will receive:

  • One year's free membership of the Hand Engravers Association
  • A feature in the Association's newsletter and on social media
  • Winners  to be announced in Hand Engravers Association socials immediately following the competition, with a highlight section for both the winner and runner up in the September newsletter.

All entries must be submitted via Jotform by 12pm on Friday 29th May, 2026.
