Call for Applications: Grant-Turnstone Award

Guitar-maker Daisy Tempest and knife-maker Holly Loftus both joined Cockpit as recipients of the Newby Trust Award. Now both firmly footed in their own fields, the pair know what a difference this kind of support makes in the early stages of establishing a craft practice. The Grant-Turnstone Award came from their passionate desire to pay it forward.

Named after their respective mentors, blacksmithing lecturer Juliet Grant and Luthier Rosie Heydenrych (founder of Turnstone Guitars), the award is open to anyone in any craft discipline that shows dedication to developing, nurturing and passing on their craft.

“The opportunity we received was massive, it meant that I could completely focus on my business, which is literally twice what it would be without winning that award. And I want to pay it forward, because it was so significant for me.” Daisy Tempest
