Call for Applications: Getting Started 2021

Applications are now open for Getting Started 2021, the one-week free online introduction to business course

Today the Goldsmiths’ Centre opens applications for Getting Started Online 2021, the one-week introduction to business course designed to support the most talented UK designers, designer makers and skilled craftspeople in the jewellery, silversmithing and allied industries.

Celebrating 40 years, Getting Started Online 2021 is a free course, delivered for the first time completely virtually, and will provide up to 100 start-ups with the help to get practical guidance and advice on key aspects of getting their business started.

Hosted by the Goldsmiths’ Centre from 22nd until 26th March 2021, the course will cover topics from understanding target markets, developing products to successfully preparing for selling in person or online.

Through live webinars and talks, industry experts will give the benefit of their experiences to participants across the UK, supporting them to get a head start in their career.

Participants who complete the Getting Started programme can apply to participate in an online showcase launching in the summer 2021.

Chris Oliver, Head of Professional Training for the Goldsmiths’ Centre commented: “This year Getting Started Online 2021 celebrates 40 years of leading industry experts sharing their business knowledge with jewellers, silversmiths and allied craftspeople. Now delivered fully online, the course has been adapted to meet the needs of the industry, opening access online across the UK and widening entry criteria to reach all those who are starting out in business.”

This year the Goldsmiths’ Centre is seeking applicants from across the industry who have come through a variety of training and learning routes. Applicants for Getting Started must be resident in the UK and can apply if they are aspiring to start, or have recently started their own business, or self-employment in the jewellery industry, whether as a designer, designer maker or other skilled craftsperson. They must also have completed an accredited Precious Metal course or a jewellery industry apprenticeship in the UK.

Applications for Getting Started 2021 Online are now open and close on Sunday 14 February 2021.
