Farnham Craft Town Artist in Residence Opportunity

Farnham World Craft Town is offering a residency, of 4-6 weeks, in Farnham, Surrey, UK during Spring 2026. We are England’s first World Craft Town, and are committed to supporting artists and makers through a series of residencies over the next three years. Each of our artists in residence will be asked to create a piece inspired by Farnham, which will form part of our local craft collection.

After a structured programme of introductions we will give the artist space to develop their own ideas and start creating a body of work. We encourage a collaborative approach, working with local makers and local materials where possible, including interaction with the local community, on social media and with the student body at our local university, UCA, to share expertise and experience as an artist.

Priority this year will be given to artists working in jewellery and metalwork, and we particularly welcome applications from makers based in other World Craft Towns.

We are accepting proposals from creatives at all stages of their development and are particularly interested in creators who want to experiment and innovate. We will accept applications until October 5th 2025. Please upload your CV, Artist’s Statement and three images of your work.

Shortlisted creators will engage in an initial online conversation with key organisations in Farnham to explore their aspirations for this residency and to discuss what other support might be needed. Farnham World Craft Town is happy to discuss flexibility if any aspect of the offer needs adapting to suit your needs. This residency is funded by The Farnham South Street Trust and is managed by Farnham Town Council.
