Call for Applications: Emerge Competition
Zealous set up Emerge in response to the changing nature of the UK’s relationship with Europe. The aim of the competition is to safeguard the creative industries and promote new generations of diverse creative talent from all backgrounds across the UK.
Together, let's remind the world that the UK’s creative industries are best in class, worth supporting and open for business.
The Competition
12 Emerge prize categories are open to all creative talent residing in the UK.
All of the categories will be shortlisted to 15, from which industry judges will select the top 3 finalists.
The individual winners of each prize category will be announced at an exclusive awards ceremony in central London.

- £12,000+ in cash prizes
- A minimum of £1,000 for the winner of each category (more based on confirmed sponsorships).

Who can take part?
The Emerge Craft Prize is open to any craft maker residing in the UK, at an early stage of their career. From ceramics to jewellery, furniture-making to glassblowing—if you work in craft, this is the open call for you.
If you work in another creative discipline, check out the other Emerge prize categories to find the one that's most applicable to you.
Why should I submit?
Emerge aims to promote artistic diversity by celebrating the most talented budding creatives of all backgrounds, in every location across the UK. That includes you! Let's join forces and remind the world that the UK's creativity is best in class, worth supporting and open for business.
The 15 shortlisted craft makers will have their work seen by leading industry judges, who will then select the top 3 finalists, including the overall winner.
It's free to submit and if selected as a finalist, you'll be invited to join us for the Emerge Awards ceremony in May 2018 (details to follow).
Upload images of your best piece/series (you can include up to six images per submission). Please describe the project. You'll be asked to include an artist statement (<500 words) as part of the application form.
You can submit up to three times.
The judges will be able to see your complete Zealous portfolio, so keep it updated (find out more). The better your profile, the easier it is for our judges to make an informed decision.
Remember to upload images of the best possible quality. The judges will want to see the very best of what you have to offer, so make sure you (or a friend) take some good quality photos that do your work justice.
Timeline
- 19 March ’18 - Submissions Close
- Close submissions across all categories.
- 30 March ’18 - Shortlists Announced
- Zealous and select partners to shortlist candidates and inform all entrants of results.
- 18 April ’18 - Finalists Announced
- Top 3 candidates of each category, as chosen by the judges, announced and invited to the Emerge Awards.
- 3 May ’18 - Awards Ceremony
Partners, judges, the media and sponsors invited to attend the Emerge Awards where the final 12 winners are announced.
