About Crafted
Realising the reliance that many luxury brands have on the fine skilled work and experience of craftspeople and artisans, Crafted was established in 2007 by founder and programme chairman Guy Salter and Walpole.
The annual Walpole Crafted programme is now celebrating its 10th year and provides one-to-one mentorship and a series of developmental workshops for up to 12 individuals and businesses each year. Both applications to, and the programme itself, is open to all makers at no cost.
The selected mentees attend a series of all-day workshops focussing on key business skills such as strategic planning; raising finance; marketing; IP and brand protection and trade and export.
Business Mentors
Crafted mentors include business leaders from the luxury industry, including Guy Salter founder and chairman of the Crafted Programme. The 2016 mentors were Robert Ettinger, Ettinger; Jo Newton, Fortnum & Mason; Alistair Hughes, Savoir Beds; Richard Miller, Halstock; Ed Mason, Mason Campbell; Nicholas Roberts, Roberts Retail and Barbara Snoad, BSBS.
The aim of Crafted is to foster a sense of entrepreneurialism in highly skilled artisans, developing the commercial side of their businesses, providing opportunities to help them to expand and realise the extra potential beyond the traditional owner/maker scope of many craft businesses.
