Call for Applications: Chair of Material and Design Innovation
Applications are invited for the position of Chair of Material and Design Innovation, University of Edinburgh.
We are seeking to appoint an outstanding designer/maker to the post. The major remit of the role is to provide outward-facing strategic leadership in making and innovation by supporting the University’s strategic themes: influencing globally; contributing locally, maintaining and creating partnerships with creative industries. There will also be a requirement to be involved with enhancing learning and teaching initiatives within the School of Design and ECA more generally.
Person Specification
You will have a specialism in Jewellery and Silversmithing and particular expertise and interests in bridging digital technologies and traditional ways of making in order to develop new modes of thinking and practice from an inter-disciplinary perspective. You will have a level of digital expertise and be interested in leading digital technologies in the role. Key objectives for the successful appointee will be to help develop the School’s public research and innovation profile and increase research income.
Your record of recent work will be commensurate with an internationally recognised research profile for the 2020 REF. You should be able to demonstrate experience of leading research at the highest level including securing prestigious research grants. A record of successful supervision of research students and researchers is also essential.
In addition to making a major contribution to the School of Design, the successful applicant will play an active and collegiate role within the Edinburgh College of Art, the wider University and the external environment, both nationally and internationally.
