Call for Applications: Adorn – ‘Made in Essex’

Colchester Castle, Essex

July 2019 to February 2020

Colchester Museums is looking for jewellery makers with a connection to Essex to exhibit in ‘Adorn: People and Jewellery, the human story,’ the next major exhibition at Colchester Castle.

‘Adorn’ will showcase and celebrate the glitz and glamour of Colchester Museums’ collections. Focussing on personal adornment and especially jewellery, it will explore what the people of Essex have chosen to wear as personal adornment through history. The take-away concept is that although materials and styles have changed, people’s desire to express themselves through personal adornment hasn’t. ‘Made in Essex,’ one section of the exhibition, will showcase jewellery makers with a connection to Essex, including a personal profile and information about process and inspiration.

What’s in it for you?

The exhibition will run for seven months from July 2019 to February 2020. We anticipate upwards of 60,000 visitors to the exhibition during that time, which represents great exposure for you and your practice. If selected, you will exhibit alongside a select number of well-respected jewellery makers, and will be able to promote your inclusion in the exhibition in your own marketing material (subject to contractual terms and conditions).

Are you interested in being featured?

To find out more about the exhibition and the application process, please come along to Colchester Castle on either Friday 22 February 2 – 4pm or Saturday 2 March 2 - 4pm to meet the exhibition’s curators. Preview some of the historical jewellery which will be on display, including Colchester’s answer to the treasures of Pompeii – the recently excavated Fenwick hoard.

This event is not compulsory but is advised, please confirm your attendance to emma.reeve@colchester.gov.uk

A bursary of £125 will be available to each selected maker, with the exhibited work returned to the makers after the exhibition ends (March 2020).
