Stellar line up set for IJL 2019

Artist jeweller John Moore, The Futurist Paola de Luca, DeBeers, Sotheby’s, Fairtrade Gold, Hilary Alexander OBE and Graduate Fashion Week among stellar IJL 2019 line up

IJL,, opens on Sunday 1 September and will welcome some of the biggest brands, cutting-edge designers and the latest in Jewellery and Watch technology and sustainability to the show.

IJL’s event programme features designers including:

  • Jeweller of The Fair John Moore @IJL, Monday 2 September: The inaugural Jeweller of The Fair John Moore will show his collection on the IJL Inspires Catwalk Theatre on Monday 2 September (13:45 - 14:30) followed by questions from the audience.
  • Lucy Quartermaine @IJL: One of the leading jewellery designer brands in the UK, Lucy Quartermaine will be exhibiting and talking at IJL about her journey to the forefront of British design and answering questions from the audience on Sunday 1 September (14:00 - 14:45) in the Inspiration Theatre.
  • Graduate Fashion Week Presents Work from the Best New Young Designers @IJL, Monday 2 September: In a show first, the IJL Catwalk will showcase the inspirational final year collections of six GFW high flying graduates, alongside an insightful overview of the High Street Jewellery trends for 2020, on Monday 2 September (15:00 – 15:30) Hilary Alexander OBE, the new President of Graduate Fashion Foundation, the charity behind GFW, will introduce each collection and discuss their relevance to 2020 fashion trends.

Other high profile visitors to IJL include former Made in Chelsea personality Spencer Matthews and his bespoke luxury diamond jewellery business Eden Rocks; Kristian Spofforth, head of the jewellery department at Sotheby’s London; Katherine Ormerod – social media consultant and fashion influencer; and The Lord Mayor of Sheffield.

The expanded seminar programme, IJL Inspire, will open the stage to discuss key trends and drivers that are shaping the international jewellery and watch industry today, while offering invaluable networking opportunities to jewellery retailers and suppliers from around the world.

The IJL Inspire highlights include: SS20 Trends with The Futurist Paola de Luca; The Future of Fine Jewellery; David Brough in conversation with DeBeers and Sotheby’s; Precious Coral Sustainability; Fairtrade Gold – and much more.

IJL Catwalk trends from Paola De Luca

IJL trends editors and international jewellery futurist, Paola De Luca, will present her forecast for jewellery trend themes for Spring-Summer 2020 on the IJL Catwalk. Her vision includes authentic designs that subvert deep-rooted stereotypes with gender, touches on societal pressure with minimalism and brings to life an organic amalgamation of nineteenth century deco with nature; all the while toying with abstract shapes, futuristic expression and dark jewels.

Spotlight on Sheffield

This new feature, launched in 2018, shines a spotlight on one UK or world jewellery hub each year. This year Spotlight on Sheffield exhibit, in association with Sheffield Assay Office, Sheffield Institute of Arts part of Sheffield Hallam University and Yorkshire Artspace, will be opened by The Lord Mayor of Sheffield on Sunday 1 September. It is a collaboration between industry, education and commerce; from the Assay Office Sheffield to the manufacturers, designers, wholesalers and retailers, Spotlight on Sheffield will be a chance to showcase the city – past, present and future. 

Retail Experience

Experts, exhibitors and seminars will underpin the focus on the role of retail in selling jewellery. Seminars include: Strategy Doesn't Have to Be Complicated: Lessons from Retail Jewellers with Michael Donaldson, The Value Innovator (Sunday 1 September 16:00 – 16:45 The Knowledge Hub); and Learning from Fashion: Embracing Systems and Tech to Deliver the Ultimate Shopping Experience with Ruth Faulkner, Retail Jeweller (Monday 2 September 13:45 – 14:45 The Knowledge Hub).

IJL Watch District

For 2019 IJL’s team has designed a new Watch District area to maximise exhibitors’ space and create a destination point. Featuring Watch brands such as Elliot Brown, Calvin Klein and ICE Watch as well as The British School of Watchmaking, visitors will have the opportunity to shop for leading watch brands, in a premium location right at the front of the show.

New Leading Lights Awards

These new awards, in partnership with the respected publication, Jewellery Outlook, celebrate talent, innovation, social media influencers and their important contribution to the international jewellery industry. IJL will reveal the winners of seven categories, in a special ceremony on Sunday 1 September in the Catwalk Theatre at 18:15.

IJL KickStart 10 Anniversary

The annual KickStart mentoring programme, created by IJL and trade body the National Association of Jewellers (NAJ), is now in its tenth year and has helped more than 85 contemporary designers launch their careers and get an all-important foot in the door. KickStart alumni have gone on to have impressive careers in the jewellery sector. This year’s six KickStart designers will be joined by alumni on Tuesday 3 September to celebrate what is recognised by the industry as one of the most successful bursary programmes for emerging talent.

Workshop Live

IJL’s Workshop Live will showcase live demonstrations from experts and artisans of the Watch and Jewellery industry, including: wax carving and modelling; design rendering and chasing demos, and pearl stringing.

IJL Live

IJL Live will continue this year with a live video stream hosted on IJL’s YouTube channel, and promoted on IJL’s social channels, featuring highlights from across the show.

IJL Inspire Magazine

The IJL Inspire magazine will be available on the show floor. Highlights include: explorations of current trends on the high street and for SS20; the latest Jewellery and Watch industry insights; and much more.

Key brands exhibiting at International Jewellery London 2019 include Calvin Klein, Nikki Lissoni, CW Sellors, Charles Green, Domino, Obaku, Clogau, Mark Milton, Hockley Mint, PJ Watson, Wolf, and Sif Jakobs.
