From the Cheapside Hoard to AI, a year-long public programme will open up Goldsmiths’ Hall and its collections, celebrating seven centuries of jewellery and silversmithing and the people who make them.

The Goldsmiths’ Company was founded in 1327, and it will mark its 700th anniversary in 2027 with Treasuring Brilliance, a year of exhibitions, events and new commissions in London and across the UK.
The Company’s history runs through the story of London itself, from medieval craft and apprenticeship to the growth of trade and the City, changing fashions and ideas of value, and the development of jewellery and silversmithing as creative disciplines. Today it supports every stage of making: helping people develop specialist skills, championing makers and their work, guaranteeing the quality of precious metals through the London Assay Office, and caring for its own collection and archive.

Programme highlights
- From 28 November 2026: the Goldsmiths’ Gallery opens at the new London Museum. It will show the Cheapside Hoard, the famous cache of Elizabethan and Jacobean jewellery, in its most complete display ever, alongside highlights from the Company’s historic and contemporary silver collection.
- 4 January 2027: a special 700th anniversary commemorative mark is introduced.
- 9 February 2027: the anniversary-year Trial of the Pyx, the centuries-old ceremony in which coins from the Royal Mint are tested, highlights the Company’s continuing role in trust and authenticity.
- Spring 2027: Goldsmiths’ Hall opens its doors to visitors, with guided tours, talks and a new exhibition, Making Good and True, from 15 March.
- Autumn 2027: a major new exhibition, Treasure, explores what makes jewellery precious. It runs from 20 September to 19 December in the Hall’s new exhibition space, alongside Goldsmiths’ Fair from 21 September to 3 October.
- Winter 2027: the anniversary year ends with a Christmas Fair pop-up, talks, tours and a light commission by Studio McGuire that will transform Goldsmiths’ Hall.
- Throughout 2027: exhibitions at the Goldsmiths’ Centre will champion emerging talent, celebrate apprenticeship and explore how AI could reshape the future of jewellery. Six early-career silversmiths will unveil new commissions at cultural institutions in Belfast, Birmingham, Cambridge, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Sheffield.
