The finest goldsmithing and silversmithing is all about innovation and refinement. An alchemy of technique and inspiration, forged through experimentation, and appealing to intellect and passion alike. The resulting treasures embody the rich narrative of craftsmanship, informed by the personality of the maker and the materials, and skilfully made into contemporary form.
Now in its 36th year, Goldsmiths’ Fair has built a solid reputation as the foremost destination for precious metal fine jewellery and contemporary silver from the best independent designer craftsmen working in the UK today.
More than ever the Fair is focused on contemporary design. The Fair’s recent appearance at Collect, the international art fair for contemporary objects, drew unanimous praise for the tightly edited yet aesthetically provocative selection of jewellery and silver we presented. Th event takes that same approach this year at Goldsmiths’ Fair on an even larger scale.
Goldsmiths’ Fair offers a unique experience for savvy culture addicts and collectors interested in an unrepeatable shopping experience. Forget old fashioned tedium and heritage brand fetish. We are firmly grounded in the tradition of British artists and makers who push boundaries, revive and repurpose long established techniques, and create work to inspire and entrance new and old audiences alike. Every year Goldsmiths’ Fair offers a new journey of discovery. It’s a world like none other, and wonderfully addictive.
Talks Programme
A comprehensive programme of talks runs throughout the Fair hosted by industry specialists and experts, including Dr Jack Ogden, jewellery historian; Louisa Guinness, Gallerist; Kathryn Jones, Senior Curator of Decorative Arts for the Royal Collection Trust and Carol Michaelson, Curator, Department of Asia, British Museum.
Special Exhibitions
This year Goldsmiths’ Fair is pleased to welcome back Christina Jansen of The Scottish gallery who will be curating an exhibition of work by the pioneering British contemporary jeweller, Wendy Ramshaw, CBE. Known for her imaginative approach and modern forms, Ramshaw was a pivotal figure throughout the 70s, 80s and 90s and an inspiration to countless jewellers who benefited from the creative trail she blazed.
In addition, expect silver treasures and jewellery from the Goldsmiths’ Company Collection on display selected by Dr Dora Thornton, the Goldsmiths’ Company Curator.
Graduate Bursary Programme
Each year The Goldsmiths’ Company identify ten fine jewellery and contemporary silver stars of the future, provide customised training and a free stand at the Fair as a way to provide exposure for these exciting new talents. It’s a highly sought-after platform for emerging designer-makers which regularly leads to sales and commissions that otherwise might take years to achieve. We’re thrilled to present another brilliant crop of graduates this year, each one offering an opportunity for consumers to ‘get in on the ground floor’ of the next design superstar.
