Jasmine is the national flower of no less than six countries. Renowned for it's symbolism in culture and religion, the jasmine blossom is a emblem of unity and divine hope; especially throughout India.
Often conceptually rooted in Indian spirituality, it's no surprise then that Ananya's new collection explores and honours the humble jasmine blossom. The woman behind the eponymous brand spent time in workshops all over India, studying indigenous jewellery making traditions, and collaborated with one of India’s leading jewellery houses, Amrapali. Continuing her exploration of jewels and gemmology with a GG at the GIA, it's easy to see these elements coming together in the formation of the Morgla collection.
The flower bud is used in religious ceremonies, bringing together groups of people during pious celebrations and is especially prized for its delicate fragrance. With a palette of white diamonds and mother of pearl the Mogra collection celebrates the traditional symbol of internal clarity and enlightenment translated into contemporary geometric forms.
Traditionally, Jasmine garlands are worn to celebrate a woman’s femininity and strength - it's a symbol of empowerment; wearing them in your hair also represents good fortune in Southern India. In China, Jasmine represents the piety of womenkind, and in Indonesia is used to celebrate matrimony. As such, it's the perfect symbol for use in jewellery for women, or to commemorate love.
