Miranda Richardson, The United Nations and the Whitley Fund for Nature Join Fashion for Conservation on a Mission to Protect the Amazon at London Fashion Week AW18.
Presented by Fashion for Conservation, The United Nations, Fashion Scout, Magpies & Peacocks, Hoja Nueva and the Whitley Fund for Nature (WFN), Fashion for Conservation (FFC) debuted their newest campaign to protect the Amazon featuring two designers' interpretation of Amazonian rainforests, keynotes by conservation leaders and support from the fashion community,
Partnered with Whitley Fund for Nature, Fashion for Conservation has engaged influential members of the fashion community to become advocates for grassroots work around the world to protect threatened habitats on which both wildlife and people depend for food, water and life.
This season’s three part series - a preview event, catwalk show and VIP cocktail party - put a media spotlight on the Amazon rainforest, the largest biodiversity hotspot on the planet—home to over 50% of all the world’s biodiversity yet covering only 2% of the earth’s surface.
This season’s preview event, hosted keynotes by Ava J. Holmes, co-founder of Fashion for Conservation and a TEDX speaker, Steve Fletcher, U.K. Director at the United Nations, Miranda Richardson an ambassador to Whitley Fund for Nature and Stacy Flynn, CEO and founder at Evrnu.
The Rainforest Runway at London Fashion Week featured the zero waste collection “Impermanent Flora” by René Garza for Magpies & Peacocks non-profit design house. Guest designer of Kalikas Armour by Jatin Patel opened with his fantastical recycled rainforest inspired collection, “Magestic Mystics.”
Fashion for Conservation was founded by three women determined to make a positive impact on the world through creating conscious-couture. Nazanine Afshar, Samantha Zwicker and Ava J. Holmes have combined their careers to create fashion campaigns that educate and inspire consumers while supporting conservation. Elephantasia, Fashion for Conservation’s previous campaign, rocked September 2017's London Fashion Week runway, featuring designers' interpretation of the African elephant while putting a media spotlight on the elephant poaching crisis.
