The Spanish porcelain brand obtains international recognition for its latest jewellery collection created by the renowned Romanian designer

As part of the International Design Awards 2020 (IDA), Lladró was the recipient of the Gold Award in the Jewelry category for its Actinia collection created by Romanian designer Raluca Buzura. Actinia is a series of seven dazzlingly beautiful pieces that submerge us in Raluca’s fascinating imagination and concentrate on the true essence of luxury while at once defending the magic of underwater life.

Now in its 14th year, the International Design Awards 2020 have been the most successful in its history. Evaluating submissions from more than 80 countries, the IDA jury saw entries to the highest design standards across the five award disciplines Architecture, Interior, Product, Graphic and Fashion Design. Each design entry was evaluated by the professional IDA Jury panel on its own merit. The IDA seeks out truly visionary designers showcasing creativity and innovation.

As the world was struggling with an unprecedented challenge in 2020, the IDA received a record number of outstanding entries which presented the jury with an enormous task in selecting the winners, among which were Actinia by Lladró.

IDA celebrates and promotes exceptional design and works to discover emerging talent in architecture, interior, product, graphic and fashion design worldwide.

Actinia is composed of unique pieces whose significance lies not just in their power to bring out the natural beauty of the wearer, but also in their artistic expression. The pendants, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, brooches and rings, bring to mind an almost unreal world of mesmerizing anemones that live among rocks and sea reefs. A treasure trove hidden in the Mediterranean that now comes to light and attracts all eyes in white matte porcelain with sparkles of golden luster. Erasing the boundaries between the real and the imaginary, and thanks to the infinite possibilities which porcelain offers the designer, Raluca, Actinia manages to put time on hold and reconnect with nature.

The collection includes both large, striking pieces such as the eye-catching statement necklaces, whose fragments are sown by hand, as well as smaller delicate pieces. Breaking molds in the world of contemporary jewelry in porcelain Actinia joins Lladró’s catalogue of handmade contemporary jewelry which started to make a major breakthrough in the sector three years ago and now includes around ten successful collections conceived as highly symbolic artistic expressions inspired by the signature elements of the brand’s universe, such as nature and color. Little works of art that take shape in porcelain, an original material that makes each piece of jewelry truly unique.

On Raluca Buzura Born in Tasnad (Romania), Raluca Buzura graduated from the School of Ceramic-Glass-Metal at the University of Art and Design of Cluj-Napoca in 2007 and then took an MA in the same specialization. Over the last ten years, she has focused her practice largely on the design of contemporary artistic jewelry, a mission she undertakes accepting the challenge to change the common perspective with which we look at jewelry and to defend its consideration not as a mere adornment but as a work of art in its own right, able to express emotions and convey a message.

As she says herself, “Ceramics and porcelain chose me, not the other way round”.
