Digital engagement and arts professional, Matthew Burgess, takes on the role for one year as maternity cover for Harriet Scott

Friday 15 January: Matthew Burgess joins The Goldsmiths’ Company as Head of Fair for the upcoming 2021 Fair this autumn, covering maternity for Harriet Scott who has been with the Company for over six years.

Matthew brings with him a wealth of experience, having worked with leading Mayfair galleries, museums and individual artists both in the UK and internationally. He has organised and managed numerous high-profile commercial and educational events as well as exhibitions and fairs for renowned international artists as well as emerging talents.

Specialising in project management and events for contemporary spaces, Matthew has particular skills in digital engagement which he plans to bring to the Fair this year.

The appointment follows on from the first ever digital Goldsmiths’ Fair in September 2020 which gave a selection of some of the best UK-based makers a dedicated digital platform to promote their work to an international audience.

Matthew says: "My aim is to put on an authentic fair at Goldsmiths’ Hall and on our new digital platform that reflects and builds on the long-standing quality that visitors and exhibitors have come to expect from the event, whilst continuing to develop digitally and engage new audiences: supporting fine jewellers and contemporary silversmiths for years to come."
