Jocelyn Burton, 74: Effervescent silversmith and a first freewoman
The Times: When in 1974 Jocelyn Burton became the first female freeman of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths the certificate that she was handed had to have the words “son of” Roland Burton crossed out in ink, to be replaced with “daughter of”.
A determined figure, Jocelyn spent a large part of her career as a silversmith carving her way through the male-dominated profession.
