Role Overview

You will be responsible for the smooth running of the Product Development Departments at Astley Clarke & Edge of Ember.

Working closely with the CEO and NPD Team you will conceive and develop each seasonal collection taking into consideration brand handwriting, commerciality and technical issues.

You will oversee the entire NPD department and manage the end to end function of the product critical path from brief, creating product specifications, sampling, amendments and sign off.

There may also be ad hoc responsibilities representing product within the wider team.

The Role

  • Working with the CEO to ensure the creative direction of both Astley Clarke and Edge of Ember is fulfilled and reflected in the designs and specifications. This involves but is not limited to identifying range extensions, new design ideas and collaboration ideas.
  • Lead the Product Development teams ensuring all internal and external communication is timely and accurate, the critical path is maintained, and supplier relationships remain robust and productive.
  • Lead the Product Development teams to ensure all administration and internal presentations of products are well prepared.
  • Creation of product that performs well at sell-through and strengthens the positioning of the brands.
  • Drive technical and quality initiatives to improve product aesthetics and performance.
  • Responsible for resolving any QC issues promptly and efficiently with factories.
  • Although no direct responsibility for repairs, you will be available to consult on the best way to repair certain pieces on an ad hoc basis.
  • Be involved in ad hoc projects that support the business from shop floor staff training to packaging updates and other brand initiatives.
  • Responsible for maintaining sample budget and ensuring targets are met.

Required skills and knowledge

  • Experience in Jewellery Design & Product Development working with a Brand or Creative Studio.
  • A strong understanding of Jewellery construction and the ability to advise amendments to improve aesthetic or technical features is important as is the ability to understand forecast trends and identify key upcoming items.
  • Familiar with open book costing and capable of negotiating first costs with suppliers and insuring internal margins and met.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills in order to work with adjacent teams, suppliers and freelance contractors.
  • Experience in a fast paced or small business is preferred but not essential.
