Merchandising Manager

David Morris, The London Jeweller

180 New Bond Street, London

Position Overview

The Merchandising Manager is responsible for overseeing the strategic planning, stock management, and movements of all Live High Jewellery and Fine Jewellery collection stock across retail, wholesale, and event channels. Sitting within the Production team, this role works closely with Production, Sales, Wholesale, Marketing and Logistics to ensure optimal stock allocation and product availability across the business.

This role is critical in maintaining the balance between commercial demand and stock efficiency, ensuring key collections are appropriately located, best sellers are prioritised, and underperforming lines are identified and reviewed. The Merchandising Manager will support business growth through data-driven decision making, inventory optimisation, and clear cross-functional coordination.

Key Responsibilities

Stock Control & Existing Inventory Management

  • Oversee stock control and movement of all live Fine Jewellery collection items across boutiques, wholesale partners, events, and internal stock holdings.
  • Maintain clear visibility of where all collection stock is located across the business, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting at all times.
  • Monitor stock levels across all locations and proactively identify movement requirements, shortages, and overstock risks.
  • Work closely with Logistics to coordinate transfers, recalls, reallocations, and stock returns to ensure availability where needed.
  • Ensure stock locations are maintained accurately within the system and support regular stock reconciliations with the wider team.
  • Support monthly stock reviews and provide collection location reporting for business-wide visibility.

Merchandising Strategy & Product Performance

  • Analyse sales performance across collections, product categories, and locations to identify best sellers, slow movers, and commercial opportunities.
  • Support the ongoing refinement of the collection assortment, ensuring the product offering remains commercially strong and aligned with business strategy.
  • Review stock efficiency across the business and make recommendations to improve availability and reduce unnecessary holding.

Sales & Wholesale Collaboration

  • Partner with Retail Sales and Wholesale teams to understand stock requirements, client demand, and upcoming sales opportunities.
  • Support event planning, client appointments, and trunk shows through strategic stock selection and movement planning.
  • Ensure priority pieces are available for key appointments, events, and wholesale presentations.
  • Maintain regular communication with Sales teams regarding stock availability, collection performance, and movement timelines.

Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare regular stock reports for senior management review, including stock positioning, movement requirements, and collection performance.
  • Track collection performance across retail, wholesale, and events to support strategic decision making.
  • Identify underperforming stock and support decisions around movement, consolidation, archive, or future collection planning.
  • Maintain reporting accuracy across internal systems and support the development of improved merchandising visibility and controls.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Act as the key link between Production, Sales, Wholesale, and Logistics for all existing collection stock matters.
  • Support the implementation and improvement of stock movement processes, merchandising controls, and reporting systems.
  • Work closely with Finance where required on stock valuation, reporting, and commercial planning.
  • Ensure smooth operational flow between departments to minimise delays and maximise sales opportunities.

Team Support & Ad Hoc Duties

  • Provide support to the wider Production team as required.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities or strategic projects at the request of the Head of Production.

Candidate Profile

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in merchandising, stock management, retail planning, or inventory control within luxury retail or high-value product environments.
  • Strong commercial understanding of stock performance, product lifecycle management, and inventory optimisation.
  • Excellent analytical skills with confidence interpreting sales data, stock reports, and forecasting requirements.
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities across departments.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across Production, Sales, Wholesale, and Logistics teams.
  • Confident using Excel, reporting tools, and internal inventory or ERP systems.

Desirable

  • Experience within luxury jewellery, watches, fashion, or high-value retail sectors.
  • Understanding of Fine Jewellery collections, wholesale operations, and retail stock planning.
  • Experience managing event stock allocation and trunk show preparation.
  • Knowledge of merchandising strategy across both retail and wholesale channels.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make commercially sound decisions quickly.
  • Experience supporting system improvements and stock process development.
