Why Queensmith?

At Queensmith, we understand that our greatest asset is our exceptional team. As Lead CAD Designer, you sit at the heart of our production process, translating client briefs and collection concepts into precise, cast-ready designs while leading a talented CAD team to deliver to the highest standard. Spending the majority of your time hands-on with complex bespoke and collection work, you bring both technical mastery and creative instinct to every piece. Alongside this, you shape how the CAD department runs day-to-day: setting the pace, maintaining quality, and developing the people and the department culture around you. Clear communication, sharp organisation, and the ability to work at pace without compromising precision are what make this role central to everything we produce. Your contributions are integral to our journey.

  • Act as the technical lead for the CAD department, establishing and maintaining standards for quality, accuracy, manufacturability, and best practices
  • Design client and stock pieces from order specifications, independently leading high-level bespoke and collection development work
  • Train and mentor CAD team members, maintaining up-to-date training materials for core collection designs and tolerances
  • Produce cast-ready files and liaise directly with metal casters to ensure manufacturing accuracy
  • Operate 3D printing technology to produce waxes promptly for client appointments
  • Collaborate with sales and production teams to confirm specifications and meet deadlines
  • Support collection design through both illustrative renders and CAD, bringing innovative approaches to workflow and the customer experience
  • Assist with workshop tasks including laser engraving and cutting, and provide client-facing design and manufacturing advice when required
  • Working closely with the Production Team for the day-to-day running of the CAD department, priorities, and team output
  • 75% CAD creation & related work with 25% CAD team management

Requirements

  • Advanced technical knowledge of jewellery manufacturing processes and CAD design
  • Proven ability to produce complex bespoke work to an exceptional standard
  • Confident working across core collection and unique bespoke briefs

  • Commercially minded, client-focused, and able to perform under pressure without compromising quality
  • Demonstrated experience managing or leading a design or production team

Skills

  • Keen eye for detail and craftsmanship
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead by example
  • Clear, articulate communication; written and verbal
  • Excellent organisational and record-keeping ability
  • Creative problem-solver with initiative and a collaborative mindset
  • Effective time management, with the ability to prioritise across competing demands
