Head of CAD

Design Build Cast Birmingham (DBC Birmingham)

Oldbury, Birmingham

Salary: £50,000+ depending on experience
Job Type: Full time, permanent

We are establishing a new high-spec jewellery manufacturing and casting facility in Oldbury, forming part of a dual-site operation alongside our established London businesses, Design Build Cast London (DBC London) and The London Art Works (TLAW).

We are building a dedicated CAD team within DBC Birmingham, providing high-quality, production-ready CAD as a service to DBC clients and the wider trade. This function will support both internal production and external partners, forming a key part of our overall offering.

We are looking for an experienced Head of CAD to take ownership of CAD at DBC Birmingham and build the department from the ground up.

This is a senior, hands-on CAD role requiring strong design ability and experience delivering high-quality, production-ready CAD. You will be responsible for building and leading the CAD function, establishing systems, standards and workflows that support efficient and consistent output.

You will work closely with our London-based teams, supporting live projects while building and leading the CAD department at DBC Birmingham, supporting TLAW and its existing client base.

You will also play a central role in recruiting, developing and managing a CAD team as the business grows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the CAD function within the Birmingham facility
  • Produce high-quality, production-ready CAD models across bespoke work and client collections
  • Translate design concepts into practical, manufacturable models
  • Establish and maintain CAD standards, workflows and best practices
  • Ensure all CAD output is optimised for casting and downstream processes
  • Work closely with DBC London and TLAW to deliver shared project workloads
  • Recruit, train and manage CAD team members as the department expands

Requirements

  • Significant experience in jewellery CAD (Rhino, Matrix or equivalent)
  • Strong understanding of jewellery production processes
  • Proven ability to design for production, not just concept
  • Experience mentoring or managing others, or readiness to step into leadership
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Strong communication skills across teams and locations

Desirable

  • Experience building or leading a CAD team
  • Background in a workshop or production environment
  • Experience working closely with casting or production teams
  • Rendering and presentation capability

The Opportunity

This is a rare opportunity to build and lead a CAD department from scratch within a growing, dual-site business.

You will play a key role in shaping how CAD is delivered across both Birmingham and London, contributing directly to the quality and efficiency of CAD output across the business.

The role offers a high level of autonomy and responsibility, with the opportunity to influence team structure, workflows and long-term development.

Salary

£50,000+ depending on experience
