Hallmarking Technician

Edinburgh Assay Office (EAO)

Edinburgh, Scotland

Full-Time | Permanent | Monday–Friday, 8.30am–4.30pm | Immediate Start

We are looking for a careful, precise and practical person to join our team as a Hallmarking Technician, applying hallmarks to precious metal jewellery by hand.

This is a hands-on role where you will use hallmarking punches, hammers and small hand tools to accurately mark jewellery. The work requires patience, concentration and a very high level of manual dexterity, as you will be working with small, valuable items where accuracy and care are essential.

Previous jewellery experience is highly desirable, and jobbing jewellers will have a particular advantage. However, previous hallmarking experience is not essential, as full training will be provided in-house.

What we're looking for

  • Excellent manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
  • Very good eyesight and the ability to work accurately with small items
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • A careful and methodical approach to work
  • The ability to follow detailed processes and instructions consistently
  • Someone who takes pride in producing high-quality work
  • A patient and focused approach
  • Reliability and a good work ethic
  • Previous experience as a jobbing jeweller or in jewellery manufacturing would be a significant advantage

The role includes

  • Applying hallmarks to precious metal jewellery using punches, hammers and specialist hand tools
  • Working accurately to established processes and quality standards
  • Managing a varied daily workload and working to schedules
  • Maintaining a clean and organised workstation
  • Taking care of jewellery and equipment at all times
  • Completing full in-house training in our hallmarking processes and equipment

What we offer

  • Full time, permanent employment
  • Monday to Friday, 8.30am–4.30pm
  • Immediate start available
  • Living Wage Employer
  • Full training provided in-house

If you have experience as a jeweller, particularly as a jobbing jeweller, and enjoy detailed, precision work, we would love to hear from you.
