Jonathan David Jewellers is a long-established, family-run independent jeweller situated in the heart of Cardiff City Centre. We specialise in engagement rings, wedding bands, bespoke design, and high-quality diamond jewellery. Our reputation is founded on exceptional craftsmanship, trusted customer relationships, and an unwavering commitment to aftercare.

We are currently seeking to expand our team with an experienced and skilled Goldsmith to support our growing in-store workshop, delivering both repairs and bespoke pieces to the highest standards.

About the Role

As part of our collaborative Retail & Goldsmith Team, you will work from our in-store workshop in conjunction with our sales consultants and customer service team. You will assume a pivotal role in delivering our comprehensive range of repairs, alterations, bespoke commissions, and aftercare services.

A key aspect of your responsibilities will be supporting our modernised repair process. You will participate in a structured procedure where each job is received with clear images, descriptions, and requirements uploaded by our team. You will review job cards, assess the required work, update repair notes, and ensure accurate communication with the team for customer updates, thereby contributing to a smooth, transparent, and high-quality experience from the initial intake to the final completion.

You may also be required to join occasional virtual appointments to provide customers with design advice, technical insights, or bespoke consultations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete a diverse range of jewellery repairs and alterations with precision and skill, managing jobs from initiation to completion.
  • Carry out bespoke making, remodelling, and design work to a high standard, ensuring all pieces meet Jonathan David Jewellers’ quality standards.

Assessing Incoming Jobs and Performing Repairs

  • Upon receiving incoming jobs, meticulously assess their requirements, estimate the work involved, and identify any potential risks or defects. Collaborate closely with the retail team to provide technical guidance, address customer inquiries, and support design consultations.
  • Utilise our digital workflow to efficiently review job information, meticulously record repair details, and effectively communicate progress or concerns.
  • Organise and prioritise a diverse workload to ensure that repairs are completed within the stipulated timeframes.
  • Maintain workshop standards, monitor materials and consumables, and promptly advise when replacements or new items are necessary.
  • Share best practices, contribute to process improvements, and foster a culture of continuous learning within the workshop team.

Required Experience

  • Proven experience in completing jewellery repairs, alterations, and achieving a professional standard.
  • Skill in a wide range of bench techniques, with confidence in working with gold, platinum, gemstones, and various jewellery styles.

Skills & Attributes

  • Strong customer-service mindset, enabling effective communication and professionalism.
  • High attention to detail, patience, and precision in all areas of craftsmanship.
  • Competent in using a diverse range of workshop tools and machinery.
  • Comfortable operating computer systems for reviewing job cards, recording repair notes, and supporting smooth workflow processes.
  • Ability to work independently while simultaneously contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent organisational skills, including the capacity to prioritise tasks and meet agreed-upon timescales.
  • Confident in active listening, observation, and contribution to workshop planning and daily discussions.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary ranging from £30,000 to £35,000, commensurate with experience.
  • A supportive family-run environment and a friendly team atmosphere.
  • Modern in-store workshop equipped with high-quality equipment.
  • Opportunities for professional development and growth.
  • The chance to contribute to a respected jeweller renowned for craftsmanship, quality, and meticulous attention to detail.
