Objectives
- To learn or refine skills in wax carving with the objective of learning casting in house, using Delft Clay with the option of addition of adding gemstones to your designs.
- You will be guided through how to carve wax, adapt carving tools to suite your needs, what the limitations and flexibility of carving wax and refining your skills.
- You will be shown and will yourself learn how to use Delft Clay to create moulds into which you will pour molten metal directly into the mould, casting your design yourself. You will learn what Delft Clay allows you to do, what kind of designs can or can't be cast in one piece or in parts. Options to make castings from existing objects is also an option.
- You will be given the option to learn how to make a simple rub-over setting for your gemstone, how to flush set small round gemstones into your design or how to add pre-made claw settings into your design.
- There will be some basic soldering for the construction and addition of your setting, jump rings, bails, ring shanks, etc to your design.
Ability Level
Some previous experience/knowledge in modelling, carving, 3D craft work etc is useful.
Any previous experience /knowledge in jewellery / silversmithing, soldering, setting etc is also useful.
Materials Needed
Drawings / sketches of designs you would like to create.
NB. Silver is not included.
The silver you use is weighed and paid on the day at £1.75 per gram.

Monday evenings, 6:30pm - 9:30pm
