Transition
Transition, a group of recent MA postgraduates from the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham, is showcasing their latest work at the Old Fire Station Gallery, 52 Market Place, Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, RG9 2AG from 24th – 29th January 2019. This exhibition, called Transition-Henley presents established makers who work in diverse disciplines including glass, jewellery, metal, textiles and product design.
Innovative artworks express messages of ethnic unity by means of textile structures, show how the random weaving of willow can create beautiful forms and spaces, highlight the use of plant dyes in woven wool rugs, communicate the hidden distress of mental illness in wearable garments and investigate the way light and space interact through repetitive complex metal sculptures.
The artists have drawn inspiration from, among other things, ancient pathways, optical illusions and the experience of macular degeneration as well as the destruction of the coral reef where vibrantly coloured glass and metal sea slugs sit upon ghostly coral structures.
Work to view, work to buy, Transition-Henley gathers under one roof a uniquely talented and original group of makers. Browse the website www.transitioncraftdesign.uk to see the participating makers and some of the work on show.
