Discover the future of contemporary jewellery at the K2 Academy Open Studios, part of Cockpit Bloomsbury’s Summer Open Studios, from Thursday 5 to Sunday 8 June 2025.

Unconventional: Precious metals meet bin bags, eggshells, and found objects. Traditional techniques, taught to the highest standard, are reimagined through radical ideas.

Step inside the studio of one of London’s most exciting and unconventional jewellery schools - consistently described by Cockpit Open Studios visitors as "the most exciting space in the whole building!" This is your opportunity to witness the next generation of makers pushing the boundaries of wearable art.

Located near London’s jewellery quarter at Cockpit Bloomsbury, K2’s Open Studios offer a rare peek into a hidden gem of a school. Visitors can meet students and tutors, see their work, and learn more about the Academy’s unique approach - from specialised short courses to accredited diplomas. K2 Academy’s reputation as a forward-thinking hub for contemporary jewellery education was highlighted in a 2024 feature on their Grillz course in Wallpaper magazine.

Come and explore the vibrant community shaping the future of contemporary jewellery, featuring work made from unconventional materials such as eggshells, bin bags, cling film, dried wet wipes, used microfibre cloths, and more.

About K2 Academy of Contemporary Jewellery

Established in 2017 by jewellers and artists Katrin Spranger and Kelvin Birk, K2 Academy is a unique blend of the conceptual approach of leading art university and the professional technical training found in vocational schools. The result? Bold, thought-provoking jewellery made to the highest standard - work that challenges conventions and champions experimentation and creative individuality.

The Academy attracts students from all walks of life, including those in their 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond — many of whom are pursuing jewellery as a second career. They bring a rich mix of perspectives, life experience, and professional backgrounds that inform their creative practice, contributing to a uniquely dynamic and inspiring learning environment.

About Cockpit Bloomsbury Open Studios

Cockpit Studios, where K2 Academy is based, is a vibrant creative hub that houses over 175 artists across more than 20 disciplines. Held twice a year, in June and November, the Open Studios event invites the public behind the scenes into the studios of Cockpit’s talented community. Visitors have the unique opportunity to engage directly with the artists, gaining insight into their creative processes and craftsmanship.
